Anna Campbell is a writer and director based in London.
Her writing credits include eight episodes of BBC 4’s The Read, for which she abridged the following classic novels: George Orwell’s 1984, performed by Sacha Dhawan; A Christmas Carol, performed by Anne-Marie Duff; Wuthering Heights, performed by Vinette Robinson; Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, performed by Reece Shearsmith; Persuasion, performed by Monica Dolan; The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe performed by Steffan Rhodri; The 39 Steps performed by John Hannah and The Picture of Dorian Gray performed by Luke Thompson. Anna’s debut short film was Dancer of the Future, which she wrote and directed, broadcast by Channel 4 in 2016. Anna’s animated short Flesh, commissioned by BBC Arts, which she wrote and produced, won the RTS Midlands Best Animation in 2020. Recently, she directed The Whale Tattoo, a short of Jon Ransom’s debut novel for Hay Festival, Rural Media and ACE.
Her short Alfie’s Island, which she produced on location in Tenerife, played at Clermont-Ferrand 2025 in their 20 year retrospective, and on Short of the Week. Repair, a short which Anna associate produced, played at LSFF, Clermont, BFI Flare, Outfest and is now available on Disney.
Anna grew up in Mexico and rural Herefordshire, and studied Spanish Literature at St. Anne’s College, Oxford University. She is inspired by the worlds of Hayao Miyazaki, Gabriel García Márquez, Garth Nix, Sally Mann, Carmen Maria Machado and Andrei Tarkovsky.
